Who can obtain a residence permit for British Citizens residing in Italy?

Any UK national legally residing in Italy registered in the registry office before December 31st 2020, and family members accompanying or joining them, even after the aforementioned date.

What is the period of validity of the document?

The electronic residence document is valid for 5 years.
The electronic residence document is valid for 10 years in the event the UK citizen has been residing legally and continuously in Italy for 5 years – including periods of residence preceding or following December 31, 2020.

Main requirements to apply for the registration of residency:

  • Having a valid identity document,
  • Having the certificate of one’s civil registration, issued by the municipality of residence, proving the civil registration by December 31, 2020;
  • 4 passport-size photographs

Main Procedural Steps:

  1. Collecting all the relevant documents;
  2. Applying for the residence permit with the competent Police Headquarter;
  3. Requesting the issuance of the electronic residence document.
