Who is eligible to apply for a Visa & Residence Permit for Interpreters and Translators?

The Visa for Interpreters and Translators concerns extra-EU translators and interpreters who want to enter Italy to carry out employed or self-employed activities.

Main requirements to apply for a Visa & Residence Permit for Interpreters and Translators

  • Degree and/or Professional Certificate as a translator or interpreter;
  • Contract for Professional Performance to be carried out in Italy or Employment Contract;
  • In the case of an Employment Contract, it has to provide for not less than 20 hours per week.

Main procedural steps

  1. Legalization of the Degree and/or Professional Certificate as a translator or interpreter;
  2. Applying for the Nulla Osta (Certificate of No Impediment) at the Immigration Desk for employment contracts, and at the Local Labour Inspectorate;
  3. Applying for the National Visa at the competent Italian consular authority;
  4. Entry in Italy and application for the residence permit at the competent Police headquarters within 8 days;
  5. Registration of the applicant’s fingerprints at the competent Police headquarters and submission of the relevant original documentation;
  6. Issuance of the residence permit.
